This study is a partnership between A Time For Science (ATFS) and East Carolina University, previously supported by the Office of Naval Research STEM outreach program. ATFS provides high quality learning experiences and field trips to middle schoolers in Pitt County. The ECU team supported their efforts by measuring the impact of their outreach program on student interests and their feelings toward STEM careers.
East Carolina University (ECU) is a public university in Greenville, North Carolina. It is the fourth largest university in NC and the only one in the state with schools of medicine, dentistry and engineering. ECU serves the region through education, creative achievement, and service.
A Time for Science was founded by John and Nancy Bray, who are committed to enhancing science education and literacy in Eastern North Carolina. Their passion and investments into A Time for Science over the years have now firmly established this organization as a resource to the region as a branch of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. Although the organization is now operating under a vibrant Board of Directors and dedicated staff, John and Nancy’s motto remains, and that is to get people “Experiencing Nature- Doing Science- Having Fun”.
The ONR STEM Program seeks to inspire, engage, and educate the next generation of scientists and engineers, technology professionals, and medical professionals.
