This study is a partnership between A Time For Science (ATFS) and East Carolina University with financial support of the Office of Naval Research STEM outreach program. ATFS provides high quality learning experiences and field trips to middle schoolers in Pitt County. The ECU team is supporting their efforts by measuring the impact of their outreach program on student interests and their feelings toward STEM careers.

FREE A Time for Science Lab RATS Workshops (K-12 Educators of any subject area)
STEM Teacher Workshops were conducted during summer 2025 in Greenville, NC—open to all K-12 educators of all subject areas curious about integrating STEM into their teaching! The free, hands-on workshops explored engaging topics like the physics of roller coasters, artificial intelligence, renewable energy engineering, and more. Activity resources are available on this site. Participants learned ready-to-use STEM activities designed for middle school students and had the opportunity to meet a special guest scientist. (NOTE: While the activities during the workshop were geared toward middle school, the team will discussed how to scale the activities up for 9-12 and down for K-5.)
Attendees also earned a CEU certificate upon completion.
